Aluminum Passenger Catamaran Refurbished Bigger and Stronger
Coastwise Corporation completed the design and construction support of a re-power and stern extension for the M/V Spirit of Adventure. The Spirit of Adventure is owned by Major Marine Tours, and is used as an excursion vessel to transport passengers on sight-seeing tours of Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula out of Seward, Alaska. The re-power and stern extension design was conducted by Coastwise Corporation, and the refurbishment work was conducted by Catalyst Marine Engineering in Seward, Alaska.
The M/V Spirit of Adventure is a USCG inspected subchapter K passenger vessel certified to carry up to 240 passengers on Exposed Waters. The vessel was originally built by Nichols Brothers in 1985 as an 86 foot long high-speed aluminum catamaran. For this project, Coastwise designed a stern extension for the vessel, which increased the vessel’s length to 96 feet. The re-power of the vessel involved the installation of two 1,450 horsepower main engines which meet new EPA Tier 3 emission requirements.
The owner of the vessel contacted Coastwise Corporation to take advantage of our 27 years of experience designing USCG inspected high-speed catamarans.
