Overnight Cruise Ship Sails in Southeast Alaska
The M/V Chichagof Dream returned to service in Southeast Alaska as an overnight passenger vessel. The Chichagof Dream is operated by Alaskan Dream Cruises, out of Sitka, Alaska, and provides intimate weeklong cruises. Coastwise Corporation provided structure, stability and general vessel design services for the vessel modification and upgrades. Allen Marine completed the vessel modifications and upgrades at their yard in Sitka, Alaska.
The Chichagof Dream is a 200-foot steel monohull certified by the USCG to carry up to 91 overnight passengers. The vessel was originally built in 1984 to former USCG requirements. The vessel was previously operated by Cruise West and was laid up in Seattle, Washington following a grounding in Glacier Bay, Alaska during 2008. After hull repairs were completed, the vessel modifications included upgrades to bring the vessel in compliance with current subchapter K requirements and weight reductions to meet the exposed water requirements for operation in Alaskan waters.
Allen Marine contacted Coastwise Corporation for this vessel refurbishment based on our passenger vessel experience throughout Alaska and our willingness to collaborate with small shipyards.
